OUR STORY
This camp was born from a conversation at a campus house where Inyene, a student at North Country School (NCS), and her houseparent Jess, were talking about the lack of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the outdoors. Inyene had not liked the outdoors when she first became a boarder at NCS. Over her time at NCS she was able to find activities that she enjoyed such as cross country skiing, having a campfire and smores, and simply just reading outside. Jess and Inyene talked about how other kids don’t have the opportunity to experience wild places. They decided to find a way to use the resources they had at NCS to enact change by starting a non-profit camp for kids. Through NCS’s outdoor leadership program and the Equity and Inclusion student group Access Wild Places was born.
